Getting started

Two plugins, one optional AI key, and you're ready to create your first puzzle.

  1. Install and activate EntGenAI first. EV Puzzles requires this companion plugin — it's what handles the actual AI request when you ask for an AI-generated word list. Find it the same way you installed EV Puzzles: Plugins → Add New.
  2. Install and activate EV Puzzles. Plugins → Add New → search “EV Puzzles” (or upload the zip) → Activate.

  3. (Optional) Configure your AI provider. Open EntGenAI's own settings page and choose OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or a local Ollama install, then paste in your API key. This step is entirely optional — skip it if you'd rather build word lists by hand.

  4. Find the plugin's menu. A new EV Puzzles Settings item appears in your WordPress admin sidebar (grid icon), with Generate and Stats underneath it.

No AI key? No problem.

Every AI feature in EV Puzzles is optional. You can type a word list by hand, build a crossword by adding words one at a time, and generate a word search from that same list — without ever touching an API key.

Once both plugins are active, head to Word Lists to create your first puzzle content.
