Turn RSS feeds into full-screen, live dashboards for TVs, office displays and digital signage. Self-hosted, with no subscription.

== Description ==

FeedMarquee turns the RSS and Atom feeds you choose into a full-screen dashboard that keeps itself up to date. Open the dashboard's link on a TV, a wall display, a meeting-room screen or any browser, and it shows your latest headlines, refreshing automatically.

It runs entirely on your own WordPress site. There is no FeedMarquee account, no subscription and no external service to sign up for.

**What you get**

* **Full-screen live dashboards.** Each dashboard has its own unguessable link that opens as a clean, standalone page built for large screens. Anyone who has the URL can view the dashboard. It does not use your theme.
* **Three layouts.** Command Center (a featured story, a latest-headlines panel and a rotating strip of compact stories, with a live clock and status), Featured Cards, and Headline Wall.
* **Automatic refreshing.** FeedMarquee fetches your feeds in the background and the display updates itself about once a minute. If a feed has a problem, the last good content stays on screen.
* **Your colors.** Choose a palette (Midnight, Ocean, Ember, Forest or Light), set an optional color for each source, and rename or hide the headlines heading in Command Center.
* **Multiple dashboards and no built-in feed limit.** Give each dashboard its own feeds, labels, layout, palette and refresh interval (every 5 minutes or longer). Very long feed lists take longer to refresh on modest hosting.
* **Source labels and timestamps** on every story, with optional custom source names.
* **Simple management in WordPress.** Add feeds, see whether each one is working and when it last refreshed, refresh on demand, publish or unpublish a dashboard, copy its link, or create a new link at any time.
* **Safe by design.** Dashboards are only available while published. Feed addresses are checked before they are fetched, private and internal addresses are refused, and feed content is reduced to plain text before it is shown.

**Good to know**

* A dashboard's link is unguessable but not password protected: anyone who has the URL can view it, so share it only where you want it shown. You can create a new link at any time.
* Only public feeds are supported, over IPv4: no logins, no private or internal networks, and no IPv6-only hosts.
* Article images are shown only when they are served over HTTPS.
* Background refreshing needs the PHP cURL extension and WP-Cron (or a real cron job). See the FAQ.

== External services ==

FeedMarquee connects only to the RSS and Atom feed addresses that you add to a dashboard, from your own server, to read their articles. It sends a request identifying FeedMarquee and your site's address, as any feed reader does. Nothing is sent to the plugin's author or to any other service.

A dashboard's viewers load article images directly from the websites that publish them. FeedMarquee asks the browser not to send a referrer when it does this. Please review the privacy policies of the feeds you choose.

== Installation ==

1. Upload the plugin to `/wp-content/plugins/feedmarquee`, or install it from the **Plugins** screen, and activate it.
2. Go to **FeedMarquee → Add dashboard**.
3. Give the dashboard a name and add two or more RSS or Atom feed addresses.
4. Choose a layout and colors.
5. Click **Publish**. FeedMarquee starts loading your feeds right away.
6. Click **Open dashboard** and open that address on your TV or browser.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Do I need an account or subscription? =
No. FeedMarquee is self-hosted and free. It uses your own WordPress site and the feeds you choose.

= How do I show a dashboard on a TV? =
Open the dashboard's display address in the TV's browser (a smart TV, a streaming stick, a small computer or a signage player). Press the browser's full-screen key if it does not start in full screen.

= How often does it update? =
FeedMarquee checks each feed at the interval you choose (every 5 minutes or longer). The display asks for new content about once a minute, so changes appear shortly after a feed is refreshed. The page also reloads itself every few hours so a screen can run unattended.

= Why is my dashboard empty or showing "Loading"? =
Feeds are loaded in the background when you publish. This usually takes under a minute. If it takes longer, check the feed status on the dashboard's edit screen and use **Refresh feeds now**. If your site has WP-Cron turned off, FeedMarquee cannot refresh on a schedule until you re-enable it or add a real cron job.

= Why was my feed address rejected? =
FeedMarquee accepts public `http://` and `https://` feed addresses only. It refuses addresses with a username or password, private, local or internal addresses, and feeds that are reachable only over IPv6. The message on the edit screen explains which applies.

= Can I use a feed that needs a login, or one on my company network? =
Not in this version.

= Who can see a dashboard? =
Anyone with its link, while it is published. Unpublish or delete it to stop it being shown, or use **Create a new link** to cancel the old address.

= Does it show images? =
Yes, when a feed provides an image served over HTTPS and large enough to look good. Otherwise FeedMarquee uses a clean, image-free design.

= What happens to my dashboards if I deactivate or delete the plugin? =
Deactivating keeps everything. Deleting the plugin removes cached feed content, scheduled tasks and internal settings, but **keeps your dashboards** so nothing you built is lost by accident. You can delete them under **FeedMarquee → All dashboards**.

= What does my server need? =
The PHP cURL extension (nearly all hosts have it; FeedMarquee shows a notice if it is missing) and a working WP-Cron or a real cron job, so feeds can refresh in the background. If WP-Cron is off, use **Refresh feeds now**.

= Does it work on multisite? =
Yes. Each site has its own dashboards and settings.

= Does it add tracking or advertising? =
No.
