LevelNetwork Media Library Filters

Welcome to the documentation for the LevelNetwork Media Library Filters WordPress plugin.

Overview

This plugin extends the native WordPress Media Library by adding powerful, advanced filtering capabilities. Searching through a large media library can be cumbersome, but with these new drop-down filters, you can locate specific files in seconds. The plugin integrates seamlessly into both the Grid/Modal views and the traditional List view.

Features

Installation

  1. Download the plugin .zip file.
  2. Log in to your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
  3. Navigate to Plugins > Add New.
  4. Click on the Upload Plugin button at the top of the page.
  5. Select the levelnetwork-advanced-media-filters.zip file from your computer and click Install Now.
  6. Once installed, click Activate Plugin.

Getting Started & Usage

After activating the plugin, you can access the new filters immediately.

Using the Filters

  1. Go to Media > Library.
  2. You will notice a row of new drop-down menus next to the standard WordPress filters.
  3. Select your desired criteria (e.g., "Images", "> 5 MB", "Missing Alt Text") to instantly filter the displayed media.
  4. These filters are also available when inserting media into a Post or Page via the Media Modal popup.

Settings & Synchronization

You can toggle which specific filters are displayed, as well as synchronize metadata for older attachments.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Media Filters.
  2. Manage Filters: Check or uncheck the boxes to enable/disable specific filters (like Dimensions, Usage Status, Author, and Alt Text). The Format and Size filters are core and always active.
  3. Sync Metadata:
Important: If you install this plugin on a site that already has hundreds of media files, you must run the Metadata Synchronization tool. New uploads automatically generate metadata (like file size in KB and dimensions), but older files do not have this data indexed.
Click the Sync Missing Metadata button to batch process and index your pre-existing media files so they can be accurately filtered by Size and Dimensions.

Support

If you encounter any issues or have feature requests, please ensure you are running the latest version of WordPress and check that no other media modifying plugins are causing conflicts.
