Add notes and custom content to WooCommerce order emails by product or category. HPOS-ready, no bloat.

== Description ==

**Parcel Notes for WooCommerce** lets you add extra text, instructions, or HTML to the **order emails customers already receive** — based on what they bought. Assign a message to a product or an entire category; when that item is in the order, the note is inserted into the **On-hold**, **Processing**, or **Completed** email. You are not building a new email template and you are not sending a second message.

Use it when you need **product-specific email content**: assembly steps, download links, lead times, warranty text, or category-wide policies. One note can target many products; duplicate notes in a single email are avoided automatically.

Looking for an alternative to **Woo Custom Emails Per Product**? Use **Settings → Import** to copy legacy messages into Parcel Notes.

= Parcel Notes Pro =

Need variation targeting, extra order statuses, conditions, attachments, or a dedicated follow-up email? [Parcel Notes Pro](https://emergestudio.dev/parcel-notes-for-woo-commerce/) is a separate add-on from Emerge Studio. It is sold on our site, not inside this plugin. Every feature in this free version keeps working without Pro.

It is designed to stay small. Email sending looks up note IDs stored on the product and its categories, then loads only those notes. There is no extra database table and no work on the storefront.

= What you can do =

* Create unlimited notes with the classic editor
* Show a note in On-hold, Processing, and/or Completed customer emails
* Choose where it appears (before/after the order table, after order meta, after customer details, or in the footer)
* Attach a note to individual products, product categories, or both
* Use placeholders such as `{customer_first_name}`, `{order_number}`, and `{product_name}`
* Preview a note against a real order without sending anything
* Import messages from the retired Woo Custom Emails Per Product plugin

= How it works =

1. Go to **Parcel Notes → Add Note** and write your content.
2. Choose which emails it should appear in and where in the template.
3. Attach products and/or categories.
4. Place a test order. The note is inserted into the matching WooCommerce email.

The same note is only printed once per email, even if several products in the order match.

= Performance =

* No frontend scripts or styles
* Admin assets load only on Parcel Notes and product edit screens
* Email rendering is cached per order/status for that request
* Category rules are stored as term meta, not queried from every note

= WooCommerce compatibility =

This plugin declares compatibility with WooCommerce High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS).

== Installation ==

1. In **Plugins → Add New**, search for **parcel notes** (two words) and install **Parcel Notes for WooCommerce**, or upload the zip from [wordpress.org/plugins/parcel-notes](https://wordpress.org/plugins/parcel-notes/).
2. Activate the plugin after **WooCommerce** is active.
3. Go to **Parcel Notes → Add Note**.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= How do I add notes to WooCommerce emails? =

Install Parcel Notes, create a **Parcel Note**, attach products or categories, and pick which customer emails (On-hold, Processing, Completed) should show the content. Place a test order to confirm the note appears in the right WooCommerce email.

= How do I customize WooCommerce order emails per product? =

Create a Parcel Note, assign products or categories, and choose which order emails (On-hold, Processing, Completed) should include the message. When a matching product is in the order, the note is inserted into that email.

= Can I add content to the Processing or Completed email only? =

Yes. Each note has checkboxes for which statuses trigger it, so you can show different messages for processing vs completed (or on-hold only).

= Does this replace the WooCommerce email customizer? =

No. It **adds** product-driven blocks inside the standard customer order emails. You still use WooCommerce (or your theme) for the overall template; Parcel Notes injects content when specific products are purchased.

= Does this send a separate email? =

No. It inserts your note into the existing WooCommerce customer emails.

= Can I assign a note to a whole category? =

Yes. Edit the note and choose one or more product categories. Every product in those categories will include the note.

= Will the same note appear twice? =

No. If several products in an order share a note, it is printed once.

= Does this work with High-Performance Order Storage? =

Yes.

= What happens to my data if I delete the plugin? =

Settings are removed. Notes and product assignments stay in the database so you can reinstall later without losing content.

= Can I import from Woo Custom Emails Per Product? =

Yes. Go to **Parcel Notes → Settings → Import**. Original messages are copied, not deleted.

= Where do I get support? =

Please use the [WordPress.org support forum](https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/parcel-notes/) for this plugin.

= Where is the documentation? =

[Free plugin documentation](https://emergestudio.dev/documentation/#free-core). [Parcel Notes Pro documentation](https://emergestudio.dev/documentation/#pro-addon).

= Is there a Pro version? =

Yes. [Parcel Notes Pro](https://emergestudio.dev/parcel-notes-for-woo-commerce/) is a separate paid add-on from Emerge Studio. This free plugin does not lock any of its own features.
