Route Management

This section covers the main interfaces for viewing, organising, and editing your routes within the WordPress admin area.

The "All Routes" Table: An In-Depth Guide

Found under Routes → All Routes, this is a powerful, custom-built table for managing your entire route library. It replaces the standard WordPress list and offers many enhancements designed to make managing hundreds of routes efficient.

Overview of the Interface

This is not the standard WordPress post list. It has been built from the ground up to handle the specific data associated with your routes, allowing for advanced features like instant unit switching and inline editing that are not normally possible.

Controlling the Display

Customising Column Visibility

You can decide exactly what information you want to see. The table includes over 20 columns, and you can toggle them as follows:

  1. Click the "Column Visibility" header at the top of the page to expand the list of columns.
  2. Check or uncheck the boxes for the columns you want to show or hide. Your preferences are saved automatically for your user account.

Key Columns Explained

Column Name Description
Distance & Elevation The calculated length and ascent of the route. Can be toggled between metric and imperial units.
Route Direction The general compass direction of the route (e.g., NE, SW), calculated from its start and end points.
Main Destinations Shows the primary tea stop(s) assigned to the route.
Additional Destinations Lists other curated tea stops found in close proximity to the route.
GPX File A direct link to the route's GPX file in the Media Library.
Activity Type The assigned activity, such as 'Road Cycling' or 'Skiing'. This field is editable directly in the table.
Climbing Profiles & Club Groups Shows which predefined difficulty profiles and club groups the route matches based on its stats.
Hidden Status An indicator showing if a route is hidden from public searches. This can be toggled directly in the table.

Switching Between Metric and Imperial Units

In the top-right corner of the page is a "Units" toggle. You can switch between Metric (km/m) and Imperial (mi/ft). When you make a selection, all relevant data in the table will update instantly without a page reload. Your preference is saved for your user account.

Finding and Organising Routes

Sorting the Table

Most columns can be sorted. Click on a column header (like "Distance" or "Elevation") to sort the entire table by that value. Click it again to toggle between ascending and descending order.

Using Filters and Search

Quickly find the routes you need using the powerful filtering and search options located above the table:

Editing Routes from the Table

Performing Bulk Actions

You can apply actions to multiple routes at once:

  1. Select routes using the checkboxes in the first column.
  2. Choose an action from the "Bulk Actions" dropdown (e.g., `Move to Trash`, `Hide from Search`, `Show in Search`).
  3. Click the "Apply" button.

Using Inline Editing

For maximum efficiency, some fields can be edited directly in the table without loading a new page:

Editing an Individual Route

When you click "Edit" on a route, you are taken to the standard WordPress editor, which has been enhanced with several custom meta boxes, typically found in the right-hand sidebar.

Route Information Box

This box provides a read-only summary of all the key data associated with the route, such as its unique ID, distance, ascent, bearing, assigned club groups, and detected tea stops.

Route Processing & Updates Box

This is a powerful tool for managing an existing route's data. If you make changes to your tea stop list or want to re-analyze a route, you can use this box to update it.

  1. Select Options: Check the boxes for the actions you want to perform (e.g., `Recalculate tea stop proximity`, `Update route bearings`).
  2. Update Club Groups: You can also change which club groups are associated with the route directly from this box.
  3. Process: Click the "Process Route Updates" button. The system will perform the selected actions on the current route.

The "Route Management" Page

Found under Routes → Route Management, this page contains a series of tabs for performing bulk actions and managing different aspects of your route data system-wide.
