Safely preview and manage WordPress Post Tags and WooCommerce Product Tags with guarded bulk operations.

== Description ==

Tag Steward Lite helps administrators organise WordPress Post Tags and WooCommerce Product Tags through a review-first workflow. Every feature described in this listing is included, enabled by default and processed locally.

Tag Steward includes four operations:

* **Create** a new tag after checking its proposed name and slug.
* **Add** a destination tag to the unique content found through one or more selected scope tags.
* **Remove** one or more selected tags from affected content.
* **Rename** one selected tag after checking for name and slug conflicts.

Before content is changed, Tag Steward displays the complete affected-content scope, proposed assignments and safety checks. Preparation freezes the reviewed scope, and processing uses controlled batches of no more than 10 items. Each changed item is checked immediately for unexpected drift.

Add and Remove accept any non-empty source-tag selection. Rename operates on exactly one tag because it changes that individual term's identity. Every operation prepares the complete affected-content set regardless of its size, then processes it in controlled batches of no more than 10 items.

= Protected Classifications =

Protected Classifications add stronger visibility and stop-on-drift checks for important non-target taxonomy terms.

* Post Tag mode supports Categories and eligible public custom Post taxonomies.
* Product Tag mode supports Product Categories, brands, attributes and eligible public Product taxonomies.
* Post and Product protection settings remain separate.
* Post Tags and Product Tags cannot themselves be Protected Classifications.

= Safety and recovery =

Tag Steward records publication status, taxonomy assignments and relevant content state before an operation. WooCommerce previews also record product properties and relationships. Unexpected changes stop the remaining operation.

Private operation history and recovery reports are retained for the administrator who prepared them. Recovery is offered only when Tag Steward can prove that the recorded restoration is complete and the current state remains compatible.

Tag Steward never intentionally publishes, unpublishes or deletes posts, products or taxonomy terms.

= Privacy =

All tag processing and operation history remain inside the WordPress installation. Tag Steward contains no analytics or telemetry and does not contact an external service.

Suggested privacy-policy wording is available through WordPress Settings > Privacy > Policy Guide.

= Source code =

The PHP, JavaScript and CSS files distributed with Tag Steward Lite are the complete, human-readable and directly editable source code. No compilation, bundling or minification step is used to create the distributed assets.

== Installation ==

1. In WordPress, open Plugins > Add New Plugin > Upload Plugin.
2. Upload the Tag Steward Lite ZIP and activate it.
3. Open Tools > Tag Steward.
4. Choose WordPress Post Tags or WooCommerce Product Tags, then select **Load tags**.
5. Maintain a current restorable backup before applying bulk changes.

WooCommerce is required only for Product Tag mode. Post Tag mode works with WordPress alone.

== Screenshots ==

1. Load WordPress Post Tags and choose from Create, Add, Remove and Rename operations.
2. Protect important WordPress Post Categories or eligible custom Post classifications with separate Post and Product configuration counts.
3. Switch directly to WooCommerce Product protections while keeping the Post settings separate and visible.
4. Review every affected content item, its current tags, status and Protected Classification membership.
5. Compare current and proposed tag assignments and confirm the fresh preflight safety checks.
6. Freeze the complete reviewed scope before using the deliberate guarded Apply control.
7. Review private operation history and use recovery only when the recorded state can be restored safely.
8. Read the built-in workflow, protection, recovery, privacy and diagnostic guidance.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Does Tag Steward change post or product status? =

No. Status is recorded before an operation and verified immediately afterward. Unexpected drift stops the remaining operation.

= Does it change categories, brands, attributes or variations? =

Tag Steward changes only the selected Post Tag or Product Tag taxonomy. Non-target taxonomies and recorded content or product safety fields are checked for unintended changes.

= Can Protected Classifications be used with Posts? =

Yes. Post Tag mode supports Categories and eligible public custom Post taxonomies. Product Tag mode separately supports eligible Product classifications.

= Is WooCommerce required? =

Only for Product Tag mode. WordPress Post Tag mode remains available without WooCommerce.

= How many source tags and affected items can an operation process? =

Add and Remove accept any non-empty source-tag selection. Rename accepts exactly one source tag because a rename changes one existing term. Each operation prepares the complete unique scope. Processing then uses safety batches of no more than 10 items, with verification between batches.

= Can Tag Steward delete posts, products or source tags? =

Tag Steward never intentionally deletes posts, products or taxonomy terms.

= What should I do before applying an operation? =

Maintain a current restorable backup. Review the affected-content preview, proposed state and fresh preflight result. Test significant changes on a staging site when practical.

= What is the emergency administrator safety lock? =

A site owner can define `TAG_STEWARD_ENABLE_MUTATIONS` as `false` in `wp-config.php` to stop every operation and recovery Apply endpoint during an incident or maintenance period. This is an optional administrator safety control, not an access or feature control. All features are available by default. Read-only discovery, previews and preflight checks remain available while the safety lock is active.

= What is TAG_STEWARD_API_VERSION? =

`TAG_STEWARD_API_VERSION` is a public compatibility identifier for independently installed integrations. It reports interface compatibility only and never registers, enables, disables, restricts or changes a Tag Steward feature.

= Does Tag Steward send site data anywhere? =

No. Tag Steward processes tags and stores private operation records locally within WordPress.

= What happens when the plugin is uninstalled? =

Uninstall removes Tag Steward settings and retained operation records. It does not delete posts, products or taxonomy terms.
