Show the last updated (last modified) date on WordPress posts and pages, add dateModified schema, and keep minor edits from changing the date.

== Description ==

Readers, Google and AI search engines trust content that is kept up to date. UpdateStamp shows the **last updated date** (also called the last modified date) on your posts and pages, the right way. It works with block themes, classic themes and page builders, and is tested with WordPress 7.

* **"Last updated on …" line** before or after the content, on the post types you choose.
* **Your own wording** with template tags: `{modified_date}`, `{modified_ago}` ("3 days ago"), `{modified_author}`, `{published_date}` and more.
* **Hide on fresh posts**: only show the date when a post was really updated some time after publishing.
* **Minor edit checkbox**: fix a typo without changing the last updated date.
* **dateModified structured data** (JSON-LD) and the `article:modified_time` meta tag. If Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress or The SEO Framework is active, UpdateStamp stays out of their way automatically.
* **"Last Updated Date" block** that also works inside Query Loops, a `[updatestamp]` shortcode and a `updatestamp_the_last_updated()` template tag.
* **Sortable "Last Updated" column** in your post and page lists.
* **Exclude pages**: never on the front page (optional), plus your own list of URLs, slugs or IDs. Or hide it per post from the editor sidebar.
* Lightweight: no jQuery, no extra files, nothing loaded on pages without the date.

= Switching from WP Last Modified Info? =

UpdateStamp imports its settings (position, text, date format, post types) and the posts where you hid the date, in one click. Its `[lmt-post-modified-info]` and `[lmt-page-modified-info]` shortcodes keep working after you deactivate it, so you don't have to edit old posts.

= UpdateStamp Pro =

For editorial teams, agencies and sites where accuracy matters (health, finance, legal, reviews, documentation):

* **"Reviewed by" byline** with the reviewer's name and review date, also added to structured data (`reviewedBy`, `lastReviewed`), including inside Yoast SEO and Rank Math.
* **Content Review screen** listing every post not updated or reviewed within your review period, oldest first, with one-click and bulk "Mark as reviewed".
* **Weekly email** to your editors with the posts that are due.
* **Outdated content notice** shown to readers when a post is older than you choose.
* **AI content labels** ("AI-assisted" / "AI-generated") per post, to help with transparency rules such as Article 50 of the EU AI Act.

== Installation ==

1. Install UpdateStamp from Plugins → Add New, or upload the `updatestamp` folder to `/wp-content/plugins/`.
2. Activate it. Posts now show "Last updated on …" when they were updated at least 24 hours after publishing.
3. Adjust the text, position and post types in Settings → UpdateStamp.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= How do I keep the date off my home page or other pages? =

Settings → UpdateStamp → "Don't show on": tick "The front page" and list any other pages or posts (one URL, slug or ID per line). To hide it on a single post, use the "Last Updated" panel in the editor sidebar.

= Why doesn't the date show on my post? =

By default the date appears only when a post was updated at least 24 hours after it was published, so brand new posts don't say "updated" right away. Change this under Settings → UpdateStamp → "Hide on fresh posts" (0 = always show). Also check that the post type is selected and that the date isn't hidden for that post in the editor sidebar.

= How do I place the date somewhere else in my theme? =

Choose "Manual only" as the position, then use the "Last Updated Date" block, the `[updatestamp]` shortcode, or `<?php updatestamp_the_last_updated(); ?>` in your theme files.

= Can I change the text for one shortcode? =

Yes: `[updatestamp text="Refreshed {modified_ago}"]`.

= Will this add duplicate schema with my SEO plugin? =

No. In the default "Automatic" mode UpdateStamp adds no structured data when a supported SEO plugin is active, because those plugins already output dateModified.

= Does the "Minor edit" option change anything else? =

No. The post is saved normally; only the "last modified" date stays as it was. The checkbox resets after each save.

= Is my data removed when I delete the plugin? =

Only if you tick "Delete UpdateStamp settings and post data when the plugin is deleted" in the settings.
