Accessibility widget with A11y profiles, keyboard navigation, text and contrast controls, multilingual UI, and accessibility statements.

== Description ==

### Make your WordPress website more accessible ###

Welcoma Accessibility Widget adds a lightweight, customizable accessibility widget to your WordPress website. It gives visitors an easy-to-use toolkit for adjusting text, color, reading and navigation settings to suit their needs without permanently changing your website's content or design.

Whether you call it **accessibility**, **a11y** or simply being a good **ally** to every visitor, Welcoma gives your website practical tools to welcome more people.

The plugin is designed for site owners who want to improve usability for visitors with visual, cognitive, motor and reading disabilities while working toward accessibility best practices referenced in WCAG 2.1 and 2.2, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the European Accessibility Act (EAA), Germany's Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG) and Section 508.

No coding, page-builder changes or design edits are required. Install the plugin, choose the tools you want to provide, customize the widget and publish it on your website.

= Accessibility Statement generator =

Create and publish an accessibility statement from the WordPress dashboard. The form includes fields aligned with common disclosure requirements, including details relevant to Germany's BFSG Section 14 / Annex 3.

An accessibility statement should accurately reflect your website, testing process and remediation work. Review and update the generated content before publishing it.

= Multilingual widget =

The accessibility widget interface can display in 26 languages. Welcoma can detect the WordPress site language and use it as the initial widget language, while visitors can select another supported language when available.

The Core plugin ships its widget interface translations locally and does not send customized widget text to an external translation service. Optional machine translation features, when enabled by an administrator, are provided only by the separately distributed Welcoma Pro add-on.

The separately distributed Welcoma Pro add-on can add a Translate This Page tool; it documents that service in its own readme.

= Built for performance and privacy =

* Plain, dependency-free JavaScript on the front end
* No jQuery or external UI framework required by the widget
* Visitor preferences stored in localStorage in the visitor's browser
* No visitor accessibility preferences stored on your server
* No visitor tracking or advertising cookies added by the widget
* Only enabled functionality and required assets are loaded

= Accessibility standards and legal notice =

Welcoma provides tools inspired by and designed to support work toward:

* WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2
* ADA
* EAA
* BFSG
* Section 508

Important: installing an accessibility widget alone does not make a website fully accessible or guarantee legal compliance with WCAG, ADA, EAA, BFSG, Section 508 or any other standard or law. Accessibility also depends on your website's content, HTML structure, keyboard behavior, forms, color choices, media alternatives and overall implementation. Welcoma is a visitor usability aid and is not a substitute for accessible design, development, testing and remediation.

= Free and Pro =

The Free plugin includes the core accessibility widget, a broad selection of accessibility tools and profiles, widget styling controls, responsive behavior, multilingual interface support and the Accessibility Statement generator.

Welcoma Pro is a separately distributed add-on that supplies additional tools and profiles, custom savable profiles, custom module labels, a custom accessibility title, custom launcher images, an optional website-scanning connection, optional machine translation, licensed updates and priority support.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Does Welcoma require coding? =

No. Install, activate and configure the widget from the WordPress admin dashboard.

= Will it work with my theme or page builder? =

Welcoma is designed to work independently of a specific theme or page builder by adding its widget to the page and applying visitor-selected adjustments through JavaScript and CSS. Theme styles, optimization tools or unusual markup can sometimes create conflicts, so test the widget on your site after activation.

= Does Welcoma support mobile devices? =

Yes. The visitor widget and its controls are designed to work across desktop, tablet and mobile layouts.

= Does Welcoma support multiple languages? =

Yes. The widget interface supports 26 languages. Additional translation tools are provided by the separate Welcoma Pro add-on.

= Can I customize how the widget looks? =

Yes. You can customize the launcher position, icon, size, offsets and colors for the header, menu, module buttons, active states, reset button and footer. Advanced add-on features such as a custom accessibility title, custom launcher images, custom labels and custom profiles are provided by the separately installed Welcoma Pro add-on.

= Where are visitor preferences stored? =

Visitor accessibility preferences are stored in the visitor's browser using localStorage. They are not saved as individual visitor records in your WordPress database.

= Does Welcoma track visitors? =

The front-end widget does not add visitor analytics or advertising tracking. The only request the Core plugin makes to welcoma.app is the Dictionary lookup a visitor starts. See the External services section for details.

= Does deleting the plugin remove its data? =

Yes. Deleting the plugin through WordPress runs its uninstaller and removes Welcoma settings, translation data and other Welcoma-owned data from the WordPress database. Deactivation alone keeps the data so the plugin can be reactivated without losing its configuration.

= What is the difference between Free and Pro? =

Free includes the core widget, many accessibility tools and profiles, customization controls, multilingual interface support and the Accessibility Statement generator. Pro is a separately distributed add-on that supplies additional tools and profiles, custom profiles, custom labels, a custom accessibility title, custom launcher images, an optional website-scanning connection, optional translation features, licensed updates and priority support. Visit https://welcoma.app/pricing/ for the current comparison.

= Does Welcoma make my website fully compliant? =

No. No accessibility widget can guarantee full accessibility or legal compliance on its own. Welcoma provides visitor-facing tools that can support accessibility, but your website's code, structure, content, forms, media, navigation and testing also determine accessibility.

= Does the widget slow down my website? =

Welcoma uses plain JavaScript on the front end and does not depend on jQuery or a heavy UI framework. Actual performance depends on your site, enabled options, theme and other plugins, so testing on your production setup is recommended.

= The widget is not appearing. What should I check? =

* Confirm that Show Widget is enabled in Welcoma Widget settings.
* Save the settings again.
* Clear your website, browser, page and CDN caches.
* Temporarily disable optimization or caching plugins to test for a conflict.
* Temporarily switch to a default WordPress theme to test theme compatibility.

= An accessibility tool is not working. What should I check? =

* Confirm that the tool is enabled in Accessibility Modules.
* Save the settings after making changes.
* If the tool belongs to the separately installed Welcoma Pro add-on, confirm that add-on is active.
* Clear caches and test again in a private browser window.
* Check the browser console for JavaScript conflicts from the theme or another plugin.

= My widget design changes are not visible. What should I check? =

Save the widget settings, clear all site and CDN caches, and hard-refresh the page. Also check whether theme or custom CSS rules override the widget styles.

= How can I get support? =

Visit https://welcoma.app/contact/ and include your WordPress version, PHP version, Welcoma version, active theme, relevant active plugins, steps to reproduce the issue, and any screenshots or error messages.

== External services ==

The Core plugin uses external services only for the features listed below, and only when a visitor uses them. The separately distributed Welcoma Pro add-on documents its own services in its own readme.

= Welcoma Dictionary service =

Service provider: Welcoma / webAufstieg GmbH

The Dictionary tool is off by default. It only works when the site administrator enables it and a visitor switches it on in the widget. When that visitor then selects a single word on the page, that word is sent to https://api.welcoma.app/api/welcoma-dictionary so a definition can be returned. No other page content and no cookies are sent. As with any web request, the service can see the visitor's IP address. No request is made unless the visitor performs this action.

Terms and privacy:

* https://welcoma.app/terms-and-conditions/
* https://welcoma.app/privacy-policy/

The Accessibility Statement generator runs on your WordPress installation. Visitor accessibility preferences are stored locally in the visitor's browser through localStorage.
