A guide to the Glowing Amber theme

Glowing Amber is a professionally designed theme offering a clean look and style for a blogger wanting a more bold stance visually.

Gorgeous mix of amber colours glowing on a dark background and transparent elements create a very powerful style. I’ve designed this theme for everyone to use for free but know that some may want to adjust colours so you are welcome to visit www.pixelthemestudio.ca for the Photoshop source files to make this easy.

This theme was designed partially with the 960 grid system and you can adjust your column widths around line 102 within the styles (style.css) for any widths you want. I've also added some CSS3 concepts allowing rounded cornered containers, although this doesn't display in IE browsers, rather you will get squared containers - we have to wait for Microsoft to opt in for Internet standards. This theme also allows you to have 3-column, 2-column, and full width pages. SEO should be fine for you and if you are one who likes breadcrumb navigation, I've added this to the theme - no plugin required as this is built-in for you.

Theme Installation

This theme can simply be uploaded to the wp-content/themes/ directory and then activate it in your dashboard. Keep note that this will load a very basic framework without the demo site graphics, images, and content...you have to do this part.

Theme Options

This theme was developed to be a little different from most of the popular choices you will find online. Built upon the "default" theme of WordPress, Glowing Amber has enhanced many elements of the outer wrapper concept around the core standard WordPress functions. I've added three widget positions at the bottom and one "Header" widget position which you can use for almost anything you want to display above the main content. This can be written text, images, slideshow, or other forms of media, and if you use the Widget Logic plugin, you can display multiple headers on any page.

Widgets

This theme offers 7 widget positions - 3 of which are grouped at the bottomof the page. If used along with a plugin such as Widget Logic, you can have a powerful site with dynamic widgets which lets you load them almost anywhere you want by using WordPress conditional tags.

Header
The "Header" widget position is ideal for image banners or a placeholder for media plugins. You may need to adjust the styles at line 131, depending what you decide to use this for.
Sidebar Left (Left Column)
Often called a sidebar, this is the left "sidebar" column.
Sidebar (Right Column)
This is the right "sidebar" column
Bottom Left
This is the first column widget for the bottom widget group.
Bottom Center
This is the center column widget for the bottom widget group.
Bottom Right
This is the right side column widget for the bottom widget group.
Footer
This is the footer widget position letting you add information like copyright notice.

Page Templates

Because this theme is designed more for running a website, I added more than the standard right sidebar layout. You will find there are three page templates included:

Page-leftcolumn
This page template gives you the left column (sidebar) with the mainbody to the right.
Page-leftright
This gives you a three column layout with a left column, main content column, and right column.
Page
This page template is the default layout for this theme and will give you a full width version without sidebars but widgets will still load.
