The Kirby Theme

Just Another WordPress Theme

First Things First

Kirby is a nifty Theme for WordPress that began when I started to think—just for fun—about what I would want in a new default WordPress Theme.

Since, if only at it’s outset, Kirby is a Theme meant to generate discussion I’m releasing it as I develop it. If you think it’s horrible or, perhaps, even awesome, please tell me about it by emailing Ian Stewart or in a 140 character message @iandstewart.

The work I've done on Kirby has been heavily inspired by several Themes and many, many tutorials but, more than anything, by Scott Wallick's Sandbox Theme, The work Chris Gossmann and I have done with Thematic, and the Cutline Theme by Chris Pearson. If Themes carried dedications, you'd have just read one.

Thank you for using Kirby or even for just trying it out. I hope you like it.

Two Ways To Edit This Theme

The first way, and maybe the simplest, is by editing and tweaking the template files directly. But make sure you copy and rename the Theme folder first. You don't want to upgrade the Kirby Theme and lose all your changes.

The second, and probably coolest way is by creating a Child Theme of the Kirby Theme. You can read all about that here.

Make sure you check out the sample CSS layouts in kirby/layouts/.

Share the Love

The Kirby Theme has no multi-million dollar marketing campaign, celebrity sponsors, or affiliate sales program but it does have something even better—you. If you enjoy the Kirby Theme please consider telling a friend, installing it for someone less knowledgable than yourself, or letting someone that writes about WordPress Themes know about it.
