A block-native directory & listings theme built for the free Directorist plugin.

== Description ==

Locale is a full-site-editing theme designed to make a Directorist-powered business
directory look premium out of the box: a search-first homepage, styled listing cards,
category grids, a map view, and a front-end submission flow, all built as WordPress
block templates and patterns. Directorist supplies the listings, search, and booking
engine underneath.

Locale does not require Directorist to activate (WordPress.org guidelines don't allow
theme-enforced plugin dependencies), but it's built for it: install the free Directorist
plugin from the Plugins screen to unlock listings, search, maps, and the front-end
dashboard. An admin notice links you straight to it if it's missing.

= Included patterns =

* Hero with search
* Category grid
* Featured listings
* Map band
* How it works
* Listing pricing / plans CTA
* Testimonials
* Call-to-action band

= Style variations =

Three alternate color/typography presets ship under Appearance → Editor → Styles:
Dark, Emerald, and Mono.

== Installation ==

1. Install and activate the theme.
2. Install and activate the free "Directorist" plugin (Plugins → Add New → search
   "Directorist").
3. Optional: after activating Directorist, its setup wizard creates the directory
   pages (All Listings, Add Listing, etc.) automatically.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Does this theme require Directorist? =

No, the theme activates without it. Listings, search, maps, and the dashboard only
appear once Directorist is installed, since that's where the directory functionality
actually lives.

= Does this include booking? =

Booking is provided by Directorist's own booking extension; Locale supplies the styling
for it but does not implement booking logic itself.

== Changelog ==

= 1.0.3 =
* Homepage template now wraps its sections in a `<main>` element so WordPress core outputs the automatic skip-to-content link on the front page, as required by the accessibility guidelines.

= 1.0.2 =
* The Directorist admin notice can now be permanently dismissed per user.
* Patterns no longer output Directorist shortcodes when the plugin is inactive: the hero falls back to a core search block, directory sections render only with Directorist active, and the 404 template uses the core search block.
* All user-facing strings in the pattern files are now translation-ready.
* Added a copyright and license statement to this readme.
* Fixed theme.json settings (`defaultFontSizes`, `defaultSpacingSizes`) so the theme's own type scale and spacing rhythm actually apply instead of WordPress core defaults.
* Bundled the design's fonts (Inter + Space Grotesk, OFL-licensed) via theme.json fontFace; the site no longer silently falls back to system fonts.
* Replaced "Cabinet Grotesk" (unclear license) with the equivalent OFL-licensed "Space Grotesk".
* Adjusted the primary color (and the Emerald variation's) to meet WCAG AA contrast against white and surface backgrounds; Directorist's brand colors are re-pointed to theme tokens so plugin checkboxes, tabs, buttons, and pagination follow suit.
* Featured badges now use ink text on the accent color; review counts use the muted text color; empty filter-modal headings are hidden.
* Header and footer site titles no longer render as <h1>, leaving one <h1> per page (better heading outline).
* Added a brand icon (map pin + sonar ping) next to the site title in header and footer; an SVG and a 512x512 PNG ship in assets/img/ for use as the site icon (Appearance → Customize → Site Identity).
* Fixed the missing gap between the header's Log In / Add Listing buttons (the theme's zero block-gap stripped the buttons flex gap).
* Homepage flow: removed the redundant second call-to-action section (the standalone pattern remains available in the inserter).

= 1.0.1 =
* Links within body content are now underlined, per the accessibility guidelines.
* Removed the automatic write to Directorist's plugin settings on theme activation.
* Footer no longer claims a theme-author copyright on the front end.

= 1.0.0 =
* Initial release.
