An images-first grid theme for photographers, designers and anyone with a visual archive.

== Description ==

Pinbin puts a fluid masonry grid on your front page, with a translucent category
ribbon riding the bottom edge of each image. It is built for photoblogs,
portfolios, mockup galleries and anywhere the pictures should lead.

Version 2.0 is a ground-up rebuild that keeps the original layout language and
replaces everything underneath it.

* A CSS-native masonry grid. No jQuery, no Masonry, no imagesLoaded.
* Full block editor support via theme.json, with matching editor styles.
* Automatic dark mode, or a scheme you pick in the Customizer.
* An accessible navigation with a real menu panel on touch devices.
* Fluid typography that scales with the viewport.
* Threaded comments with avatars and working reply links.

== Upgrading from 1.x ==

Pinbin 2.0 upgrades in place. Your posts, pages, menus and widgets carry over.

Two things move automatically the first time you load the dashboard after
updating:

1. Your logo moves from the old "Pinbin Options" screen to the WordPress custom
   logo feature. You will find it under Appearance -> Customize -> Site Identity.
2. Appearance -> Pinbin Options is gone. Everything it held now lives in the
   Customizer, and the old URL redirects there.

The wood background is no longer the default. If you had explicitly selected it
the file still ships with the theme and keeps rendering; if you were using the
default, your site now uses a light neutral background. You can set any
background you like under Appearance -> Customize -> Background Image.

If you had customised the 1.x stylesheet directly, note that class names have
changed. The main stylesheet now lives at assets/css/main.css.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Where did the theme options page go? =

Into the Customizer, under "Pinbin Options". You can set the colour scheme,
the maximum number of grid columns, whether cards show excerpts, whether the
category ribbon appears, and the footer credit.

= How do I change the number of columns? =

Appearance -> Customize -> Pinbin Options -> Maximum grid columns. The grid is
fluid, so this sets the ceiling on wide screens; narrower screens step down
automatically.

= Why do my posts read down the columns instead of across the rows? =

The grid uses CSS multi-column layout, which fills one column before starting
the next. Browsers that support native CSS grid masonry get row-major order
automatically, without a fallback penalty for the rest.

= Do I need a featured image on every post? =

No. Posts without one render as a text card, which mixes into the grid fine.

= Is there a full-width page template? =

Yes. When editing a page, choose "Full Width" under Template. It drops the
reading-width cap so galleries and full-bleed blocks can use the whole viewport,
while ordinary paragraphs keep a comfortable measure.

= Why does the theme require WordPress 6.6? =

The theme.json file uses version 3 of the schema, which WordPress 6.6
introduced. On older versions the design tokens would not load correctly.

== Changelog ==

= 2.0.2 =

Fixes galleries, which rendered as a single stacked column of thumbnails.

Declaring HTML5 gallery support tells WordPress to stop printing its own
gallery CSS and hand the classic [gallery] shortcode to the theme. 2.0 did the
first half and never shipped the styles, so every gallery came out as one
column of 150px thumbnails, one per row.

* Classic [gallery] shortcodes now lay out as a masonry of columns, matching
  the front page, and honour the shortcode's own column count.
* Galleries default to a larger image size, because 150px thumbnails are soft
  once they are laid out at real size. A shortcode that names its own size is
  left alone.
* Block galleries get matching rounded corners, hover and caption styling, for
  both the current markup and the legacy markup older posts still carry.
* Gallery links whose image has no alt text now get an accessible name, so they
  are no longer announced as unnamed links.
* Overlaid gallery captions no longer scroll, which had created a scrollable
  region that keyboard users could not reach.

None of this needs Jetpack. A Jetpack tiled gallery shortcode degrades to a
normal gallery when the plugin is absent, and that now looks right.

Fixes the site header collapsing on tablet and small-laptop widths.

Between roughly 768px and 1024px the menu switched to its horizontal layout
before there was room for it, which squeezed the branding until the site title
wrapped onto four lines and the tagline onto five. The header grew to 131px and
stayed there, stuck to the top of the screen.

* The menu now keeps its toggle up to 992px instead of 768px, which is where a
  typical menu actually starts to fit.
* The site title and tagline stay on one line and truncate if space runs out,
  rather than wrapping into a narrow column.
* The tagline is hidden below 1200px so the site name keeps its space.
* A menu with many items now wraps to a tidy second row instead of forcing the
  branding to shrink.

On the same page the header goes from 131px to 58px at tablet widths.

= 2.0.0 =

A complete rebuild. The grid, the category ribbon and the arrow affordance are
kept; everything else is new.

Removed
* jQuery, Masonry and imagesLoaded. The grid is now pure CSS.
* The `<select>`-based mobile menu.
* The bespoke Thickbox logo uploader and the Pinbin Options admin page.
* A direct `SELECT ... FROM wp_posts` query that assumed the `wp_` table prefix.
* `wp_title()` and the manual title filter.

Fixed
* Focus outlines were suppressed globally, making keyboard navigation invisible.
* `maximum-scale=1` blocked pinch-zoom.
* Comment avatars and reply links were hidden with `display: none`, which broke
  threading entirely.
* Masonry was being passed v2 options that current versions ignore.
* The stylesheet referenced images/hr.jpg, which was never shipped.
* The logo markup nested a duplicate `#logo` ID.
* The logo URL was echoed unescaped.

Added
* theme.json with a full design token set, and matching editor styles.
* Automatic and selectable dark mode.
* Block patterns, and three registered block styles.
* Custom logo, HTML5 markup, wide and full alignment, responsive embeds.
* A social menu location, a proper 404 template and an image attachment template.
* A Full Width page template for galleries and full-bleed layouts.
* Fluid type and spacing scales.
* Right-to-left support via CSS logical properties, with no separate rtl.css.
* Reduced-motion and print styles.

Also fixed during testing
* Untitled posts produced links and headings with no accessible name.
* Posts whose author had been deleted rendered an empty author link.
* The category ribbon on a post with no featured image escaped its container
  and floated over the page.
* Hidden submenus extended the document's scroll width, putting a horizontal
  scrollbar on every page.
* Colour presets from theme.json kept their light values in dark mode, so any
  block using a palette colour failed contrast.
* Footer block widgets rendered their headings at full h2 size.
* The sticky-post ring was cut off wherever the featured image met the card edge.
* Horizontally scrolling code blocks could not be reached by keyboard.
* The menu toggle icon inherited a white fill on hover, on a light bar.
