A flexible WordPress block theme for artists, bands, sports clubs, associations, organizations, small businesses and editorial websites.

== Description ==

Takt Standard is free and works without a license key or any required plugins.

Takt gives you the parts a real site needs and stops there: four header layouts, two footers, seventeen sections and three complete page layouts, a six-role color palette that also has a dark counterpart, and templates for every core view.

Everything is expressed through theme.json, block markup and patterns, so the Site Editor is the main tool you need. No page builder or framework is required.

**Color scheme.** Every color in the palette can carry a dark counterpart. New installations show the light/dark switch by default. Under Appearance > Customize > Color scheme you can instead force light or dark, follow the visitor's system setting, or retain visitor choice. Supporting browsers such as Safari also tint their surrounding interface to the active page surface. Place the switch anywhere with the pattern "Light and dark switch".

**Styles.** Browse Styles in the Site Editor offers a Dark variation, three color palettes (Warm, Forest, Signal) and two typography sets (Editorial, Serif headings). Pick one at a time; the color variations each carry their own dark counterpart, which is why the editor lists them as whole styles rather than as a palette you can mix with a font set.

**Header layouts.** Four template parts sit in the Header area: the default (logo left, menu centered), logo centered with the menu beneath, logo above the menu, and a wrapping menu that remains visible instead of becoming a hamburger. Swap them in the Site Editor; no code is required.

**Helper classes.** The patterns use a handful of classes you can reuse on your own blocks: `takt-intro` for a kicker and lead, `takt-stat` for a figure, `takt-step__number` for a numbered circle, `takt-member` for a person card with a flush image, `takt-quote-line` for a one-line quote, `takt-photo` for an image that fills its column, `takt-header__cta` for a compact header button, and `takt-overlay-only` for a menu item that only appears in the mobile overlay. Add `takt-header--sticky` to the header group to make it stick.

**Content you did not write.** Most sites are older than their theme, and their posts still carry classic-editor markup: bare images with a hardcoded width, `alignleft` and `alignright`, `.wp-caption`, empty paragraphs. Takt styles all of it, so a site looks tidy the day it switches over instead of after someone re-edits five hundred posts. Floats are capped at half the column and dissolve on small screens, captions and corner radii match the block editor's, and the empty paragraphs the classic editor left behind are dropped. The sheet loads on single posts and pages only.

**Performance.** The base stylesheet is small. Form styling, the content sheet and the WooCommerce sheet are separate files: the content sheet loads on single posts and pages, and the WooCommerce one only where the shop actually renders. No web fonts, no external requests, one small script in the footer.

== Installation ==

1. In your site's admin, go to Appearance > Themes > Add New.
2. Choose Upload Theme, select the supplied takt.zip, install it and activate.
3. Open Appearance > Editor to set the logo, the menu and the colors.
4. Add a page and choose a suggested Takt layout, or open the inserter, choose Patterns and pick one of "Takt pages". Replace the sample text, images and button destinations with your own content before publishing.
5. Set your homepage under Settings > Reading. Create and select your navigation in the Site Editor, and check the site title, logo and contact details. The contact starter is a layout; add your preferred form block or shortcode if you want to receive enquiries.

== Updates and recovery ==

Back up both the database and wp-content before an update. The database contains your pages, navigation, Site Editor templates, global styles and theme settings; a copy of the theme directory alone does not preserve these customizations.

First install the new ZIP on a staging copy using Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme. WordPress offers to replace the installed version. Inspect the displayed versions before confirming. After updating, check your homepage, menus, saved templates, colors and mobile layout. Sites using WooCommerce should also check their product, cart, checkout and account pages with their configured integrations.

Keep customizations in the Site Editor, a child theme or a separate site plugin. Editing the parent theme's files directly means those edits are replaced by the next update. Saved Site Editor templates take precedence over new theme files; updates preserve those customizations, so a newly supplied default layout does not automatically replace a customized one.

Takt also versions its visual defaults. An existing installation updated from a version before 0.6 keeps the compatible page, article, archive and shop presentation, including hidden shop titles. A new installation starts with the current presentation. Under Appearance > Customize > Takt design and compatibility, the site owner can deliberately move between those defaults and can show or hide the default page and shop titles independently. For one page only, choose the "Page without title" template in the editor. These choices are retained by later theme updates and never replace saved Site Editor templates or page content.

For a theme-only rollback, upload the previously saved Takt ZIP and replace the current version. This restores theme files while retaining database content and settings. If the update included WordPress, plugin or database changes, use a matching full-site backup and that component's recovery procedure. Verify the restored site before reopening it to visitors.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= How do I switch the site to dark? =

Appearance > Customize > Color scheme. "Dark" renders every page dark. "Follow the visitor's system setting" uses the visitor's operating system preference. "Visitor chooses" shows a switch in the header and remembers the choice in the browser.

= Where do the dark colors come from? =

From `settings.custom.dark` in theme.json: one entry per palette slug. A child theme or a Takt Pro preset can override them. Colors that sit on a photo, and surfaces you deliberately colored, keep their light look in dark mode.

= Can I use a different header layout? =

Yes. In the Site Editor open Patterns > Template parts, or click the header in a template and choose Replace. Four header parts and two footer parts ship with the theme. Choose "Header: menu always visible" when the navigation should wrap onto another row instead of changing to a hamburger.

= Does it work with WooCommerce? =

Templates for the shop, a product category, a single product, the cart, the checkout, the account page and the order confirmation ship with the theme, and their stylesheet loads only where the shop actually renders.

Product collections, product prices, sale badges, product details and native product filters follow the theme. The catalog's Outline style, button width and column count remain editable through WooCommerce's block settings. Filter styling is verified against WooCommerce 11.1.

Both block and classic shortcode cart/checkout are supported. Block cart and checkout use Takt's palette, type, buttons, mobile submit surface and quantity badges while retaining WooCommerce's responsive layout. Keep the cart/checkout blocks in the assigned page content. Configure and test your chosen shipping, tax and payment methods before accepting orders; the theme supplies presentation, not a payment service.

= How do I change the fonts? =

Browse Styles in the Site Editor and pick a typography set, or set your own font families under Styles > Typography. The theme ships system font stacks only, so there are no external font requests.

== Changelog ==

= 0.6.3 =
* Move the update-safe design and default-title choices from a separate Appearance screen to the WordPress Customizer while retaining every existing saved value.
* Complete the PHP internationalization audit and add release checks for untranslated user-facing PHP output.
* Show the visitor light/dark switch on fresh installations and keep supporting browser chrome in sync with the active Takt surface, without changing existing sites that never selected a color mode.

= 0.6.2 =
* Replace the directory screenshot with a high-resolution native football-club presentation built entirely from Takt Standard and core blocks.
* Keep WooCommerce product media visible while the interactive gallery initializes instead of leaving a blank product column.
* Keep compact headers, their menu and mini cart inside the viewport, and render variation choices without clipped text.
* Let Cover background images follow only a radius deliberately assigned to their Cover block, while ordinary content images retain the theme radius.

= 0.6.1 =
* Broaden the public theme description to reflect Takt's use by creative professionals, cultural organizations, sports clubs, associations, small businesses and editorial websites.

= 0.6.0 =
* Preserve pre-0.6 visual defaults on existing installations; make the current generation an explicit, reversible site-owner choice that never overwrites saved content or Site Editor templates.
* Add a header variant whose navigation remains visible and wraps, so responsive hamburger navigation is optional.
* Establish a cohesive stage-and-programme visual system for default pages, page starters, posts, archives, search, 404 and the footer.
* Give ordinary pages a visible high-contrast title stage while preserving explicit no-title templates and page starters that already own an H1.
* Give About and Contact starters their own purposeful introductions instead of repeating the homepage hero.
* Recompose long responsive menus as a two-column programme on larger screens and a full-width single-column list on phones.
* Align article, archive and card content to one wide axis; keep featureless post grids and four-item statistic bands balanced at every supported width.
* Improve WooCommerce account, cart, checkout and catalog hierarchy while retaining native block controls and conditional asset loading.
* Refresh the German, formal German and Swiss German interface text and retain accessible light/dark contrast across all bundled variations.

= 0.5.1 =
* Replace the directory screenshot with a native musician demo featuring the Takt header logo, a stage photograph, album content and manually composed live dates.
* Document demo-image provenance and licensing. Theme runtime behavior is unchanged.

= 0.5.0 =
* Prepare the first stable Standard package from the validated 0.5.0-rc.5 build.
* Update theme metadata, installation guidance and bundled resource attribution for WordPress.org submission.

= 0.5.0-rc.5 =
* Keep the main skip-link target focusable when its content already contains interactive elements.
* Transparent outline buttons follow the surrounding light/dark palette; filled buttons retain their brand surface.
* The copyright line inherits the footer's text color so it remains readable on deliberately dark footer surfaces.
* On small screens the expandable header search opens below the header bar, keeping the logo, scheme switch and menu reachable.

= 0.5.0-rc.4 =
* Keep the default header cart count readable across live palette changes and transparent hero headers; explicit editor count colors remain unchanged.

= 0.5.0-rc.3 =
* Keep classic cart totals inside their summary card when WooCommerce's layout stylesheet loads later.
* Align mobile coupon controls at full width and separate the shipping label from its description.

= 0.5.0-rc.2 =
* Product cards use native outline and width settings; editor colors, font sizes and border radius remain editable.
* Responsive product grids respect the selected column count and keep cards readable on smaller screens; fixed, list and carousel layouts retain their native behavior.
* Product prices and sale badges use global block styles. Product details tabs wrap with one clear active indicator.
* Native product filters use theme colors, visible field borders and larger controls. Mobile filter drawers follow live light/dark changes.
* Mini-cart actions retain native fill/outline choices; quantity controls have 44px targets and wrap in narrow cart rows.

= 0.5.0-rc.1 =
* Removed hard dependencies on Pro blocks from the Standard post template. Pro adds its optional post metadata through native Block Hooks.
* Fixed shop stylesheet loading for nested blocks, registered and synced patterns, shortcodes and template content, with cycle protection.
* Added palette-aware block cart and checkout component styles.
* Kept store notices, action links and country/region selectors readable in both color schemes, including WooCommerce status-specific styles.
* Corrected heading block markup and made complete page layouts available in the native page starter selection.
* Page starters keep their own H1; pages without a heading receive one hidden title in the completed main region.
* Made the color switch discoverable and all five header/footer parts translatable. Replaced unfinished contact defaults with native search.
* Completed the bundled German, formal German and Swiss German catalogs, including editor metadata.
* Added isolated WordPress tests, a compatibility CI workflow and a reproducible installable package builder.

= 0.2.0 =
* Accessibility: section headings in five patterns and in the product archive start at h2, the "page without title" template falls back to a hidden h1 only when the content brings none, read-more links carry the post title, the theme defines its own screen-reader-text rule, the two navigations have names, the submenu toggle is a 24px target, main is focusable from the skip link, and focus rings are split: links take currentColor, buttons take it inside the button so the ring never lands white on white.
* Added templates for the cart, the checkout, the account page and the order confirmation, so every shop page keeps the site header, footer and content width.
* The account page uses the account template even when its slug is translated; the template can also be picked by hand.
* Lifted WooCommerce's 1000px cap on cart, checkout and account, and neutralised the clearfix pseudo elements that displaced grid columns.
* Store notices, the checkout toggles and their icons follow the palette; checkout checkboxes have a 44px target.
* Added three header layouts and two footers as template parts.
* Added ten section patterns and three full page layouts.
* Added color variations Warm, Forest and Signal and typography variations Editorial and Serif headings.
* The light and dark switch is a pattern now, not a block; a forced dark site no longer needs JavaScript.
* Split the stylesheet; the WooCommerce sheet loads only when WooCommerce is active.
* Form controls use an accessible border color and have a visible focus style.
* One banner and one contentinfo landmark per page, one skip link, and an H1 on the posts page.
* Added shadow, gradient and duotone presets and h5/h6 sizes.

= 0.1.0 =
* Initial release.
